The Iconic Puzzle Game Didn't Triumph at This Gaming Ceremony — A New Category May Address This Issue

Whenever a major prize-giving event draws close, one notices a demand for introducing fresh award types to recognize overlooked contributions and satisfy the spirits of fans who have specialized interests.

A fellow writer has already made for a horror game category. That would be fantastic. The same goes for strategy board titles, representing a dedicated supporter's campaign. However, I must insist for pushing forward just as with other single-minded supporters, I possess a compelling case backing this proposal stands as crucial and significant. Here's the proposal: It's essential to create a classification for brain-teasing titles.

Organizing Gaming Categories

Organizing artistic expressions is not a science; opinions vary greatly, and it will always generate discussions resulting in unclear classifications. There’s a reason movie academies steer clear of genre categories. Yet it remains an unavoidable compromise in the world of interactive entertainment, that demonstrate such variety they hardly constitute as a single art form.

For comprehensive acknowledgment of gaming accomplishments to receive acknowledgment, and to ensure all game types to have a chance for representation, specific award classifications remain vital.

Existing Game Classification System

Leading game ceremonies presently include genre categories for Action-oriented games, Action/Adventure, Role-Playing, Fighting, Simulation and strategy titles, plus athletic and racing experiences. Between them, these six categories successfully include numerous genres, allowing placement accommodating various experiences.

Different situation exists for puzzle games. There’s simply nowhere for their placement. Consider three of this year’s best games, all very different: structural challenges in a particular game, intense tile-matching of another game, engaging interpersonal challenges of a third title. Which classification works among existing types? Unfortunately, nowhere.

The Representation Problem

Many instances occur of brilliant puzzle games launched regularly lacking appropriate categories in entertainment awards, if they accidentally match for categories like Mobile Game, Virtual reality experiences, and the highly challenging Indie races.

  • A renowned logic title wasn’t nominated in any category in 2014
  • Another creative title received no nominations that year
  • Well-received sorting experience got ignored that year
  • Just some logic titles barely qualified for independent or mobile categories

Importance of Logic Titles

These are often modest productions, but the art behind logic titles holds tremendous importance. Well-known matching games rank among most popular titles in the world maintaining this status for over a decade.

The iconic tile-matching title rivals well-known building titles competing to become most purchased experience; it also contends for best game of all time. Puzzle games are foundational within interactive entertainment, and engaging across multiple categories.

The Solution and Justification

Puzzle games wouldn’t have that issue. One could readily select multiple candidates with fascinating, diverse, deserving games annually without trouble — actually, with challenge, because you’d have to leave so many good games out.

Restating the point, these are games that otherwise have no home in important events. Puzzle game makers function at the challenging frontier of video game design, producing among most fundamental forms within interactive entertainment. Similar to cinema stunt performers, they merit acknowledgment. Let’s not keep them waiting decades.
